Following is a brief history of Resurrection Presbyterian Church. All praise, glory and honor belong to God for all He has done and all He will do in us and in our community.
Resurrection Presbyterian Church began with a small group of people who desired to return to serving God in accordance with the basics of Reformed Christian beliefs. This desire was placed in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, following a series of events and theological decisions made by our former denomination with which we could not agree. God called us together to pray regularly for our congregation and denomination, and for His will in our lives. We thank God He made it clear to us that as a community of believers, we could not ignore or stand independent of decisions made at the denominational level, especially as they addressed core Christian beliefs and values. As we continued to meet in prayer, seeking God’s guidance and a biblical response to the General Assembly, it became clear our convictions were not shared by the Session, as well as leaders of the denomination. It was decided to bring the issues before the congregation at the January, 2009 meeting. After a passing vote in favor of disaffiliating from the denomination was dismissed by the Chicago Presbytery, we understood God was indeed calling us to “something new.” This Christ-centered response to leave the congregation in peace and follow the new path God had laid out for us resulted in the founding of Resurrection Presbyterian Church on February 5, 2009 with 22 members.
Continuing to love and pray for our friends and family at our former church, we were filled with God’s peace and excitement as we followed His call to establish a new church that:
Led by God, we then sought to be received by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and to unanimously extend a call to Pastor Robert Price. We know the Prices accepted this call only after much prayer seeking God’s wisdom and guidance in this step. We thank God for Pastor Bob, his wife and partner in ministry, Marilee, and the whole Price family as we move forward together to bring glory to God and His Kingdom.
It was with great joy and thankfulness to God on April 24, 2009 that Resurrection Church was received as a particular church and Pastor Bob Price was received as a minister member of the Mid-America Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. To God be all the glory!
With humbled hearts we thank God for His grace and mercy to us in calling us together as a congregation of like-minded believers, who are here to worship Him and be missional to the people in our community. Daily we look forward to the opportunities He gives us to be His hands and feet to others, to be bearers of His Word, to be witnesses to His saving grace, to grow in faith together as a community of believers, and to be His disciples in this needy and hurting world.
It is with absolute, unwavering faith in God’s sovereignty and provision that we follow where He leads us, both as individuals and as Resurrection Presbyterian Church.
